1. Answer the following questions.
i) Kashmir is known for its handicrafts. Discuss?
ii) Discuss the mineral based industries of Jammu and Kashmir.
Ans: Mineral-based industries are vital for Jammu and Kashmir's economy. Many industries extract minerals like limestone, gypsum, bauxite, and clay, which are essential for the cement industry. These resources are found in areas like Baramulla, Anantnag, Reasi, and Basoli. JK Minerals Ltd and JK Cements Ltd run numerous factories to produce consumer goods, playing a crucial role in the region's economic growth.
iii) Write a short note on the agro based industry of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh?
Ans: Jammu and Kashmir's economy relies on farming, and the agro-based industry is crucial for providing raw materials to other sectors. Paddy is grown extensively, and a modern rice plant was established in Lethpora Pulwama in 1981 for processing. The valley's horticulture sector is well-established, with many people involved. They export large quantities of fruits like cherries, apples, apricots, etc., to other states in the country, boosting the economy.
iv) Write a short note on the tourism industry of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh?
Ans: Tourism is a crucial income source for Jammu and Kashmir. The region's stunning health resorts like Gulmarg and Pahalgam are famous worldwide and attract many visitors. Tourism forms the backbone of Jammu and Kashmir's economy, drawing people from different regions to witness its beauty. With the growth in tourism, more foreign tourists visit, bringing prosperity to the area.
v) Write a short note on ‘Paper Machie’
Ans: Paper Machie is a beautiful handicraft of Kashmir. Artisans shape paper and pulp into various decorative articles and paint them with colorful designs. The main production centers are Rainawari in Srinagar and Anantnag Districts. It's a unique and exclusive craft that highlights the cultural richness of Kashmir.
