On Tuesday, July 11th, the Supreme Court announced that it will start listening to the requests questioning the removal of Article 370. This particular article granted special privileges to the region of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). The court has set August 2nd as the date to commence these hearings.
Almost four years after the government removed the special status of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and divided the state in 2019, the highest court in India has started considering the petitions that question this decision.
On July 11th, a Constitution Bench consisting of five judges, including Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices SK Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, and Surya Kant, issued procedural guidelines on how to proceed with the hearing of the case.
The judges stated that the hearing of the petitions will start at 10:30 am on August 2nd and will continue on a daily basis, except for miscellaneous days.
