Q1. Who was Nora? How did she become a friend of the teacher?

Ans: Nora was a five-year-old girl who became friends with her teacher after the teacher visited her family over a weekend.

Q2. How did the teacher observe Nora while learning?

Ans: Most of the time, the teacher would sit quietly and observe Nora, but sometimes he noticed her struggling with reading certain words or phrases. In those instances, he encouraged her to keep going and sometimes offered help to read the words correctly.

Q3. What odd thing happened with Nora? Why was the teacher puzzled?

Ans: The teacher noticed an odd occurrence when Nora couldn't read a word correctly that she had previously read correctly on a different page or paragraph. This puzzled and confused the teacher.

Q4. Was Nora a careless child? How do you know?

Ans: Nora was indeed a bright and intelligent student. She was not careless and read the book with full focus. The teacher noticed the odd occurrence of her not being able to read a word correctly that she had previously read correctly, which puzzled and confused him despite Nora's overall attentiveness and intelligence.

Q5. How should a teacher understand the problems of the children?

Ans: To understand the learning problems of students, a teacher must see things through a child's eyes. This helps in providing effective support and empathy during their learning process.

Q6. What experiences popped into the teacher’s mind after Nora’s learning problem.

Ans: The teacher came across a page in an Indian language script that he couldn't understand, making the words look like a jumble. Nora faced a similar learning problem, as some words also appeared confusing to her.

Q7. Why are the children of unlettered homes at a disadvantage?

Ans: Children from unlettered homes face a disadvantage because no one at home can teach them. As a result, they remain unfamiliar with the shapes and patterns of letters.

Q8. How did the child learn from Nora?

Ans: To understand children's learning problems, a teacher must see things from their perspective. For a child experiencing the world for the first time, remembering words can be difficult.
