Answer the following questions

1. Why was the King advised to go to magicians ?

Answer: Some wise men believed that to choose the best time to do something, you needed to know the future, and only magicians could do that. So, they told the king to go to the magicians for advice.


2. In answer to the second question, whose advice did the people say would be important to the king?

Answer: To answer the second question, some people suggested asking for advice from counselors, priests, doctors, or soldiers.


3. What suggestions were made in answer to the third question?

Answer: For the third question, some people said science was the most important thing to focus on. Others thought fighting was most important, and then there were those who believed religious worship should come first.


4. Did the wise men win the reward? If not, why not?

Answer: None of the wise men won the reward because they all gave different answers, and the king wasn't happy with any of them.


5. How did the king and the hermit help the wounded man?

Answer: The king cleaned the wound and covered it with his handkerchief. He kept dressing it until the bleeding stopped. He also gave the wounded man water to drink. With the hermit's help, the king brought the man inside the hut and let him stay there for the night.


6. (i) Who was the bearded man?

Answer: The bearded man was the king's enemy. He wanted revenge for his brother's death by killing the king and taking all his belongings.


(ii) Why did he ask for the king’s forgiveness?

Answer: The bearded man asked the king for forgiveness because he had wanted to kill him, but now he was grateful because the king had saved his life.


7. The king forgave the bearded man. What did he do to show his forgiveness?

Answer: The king showed his forgiveness by promising to send his doctor and servants to take care of the man and also pledged to return all his property.


8. What were the hermit’s answers to the three questions? Write each answer separately. Which answers do you like the most and why?

Answer: The hermit's answers to the three questions were:
1. The right time to do something is "now" because it's the only time we can act.
2. The most important person is the one you're with at that moment because we don't know the future.
3. The most important thing is to do good to others because that's our purpose on earth.

I prefer the hermit's answer to the second question because it emphasizes the importance of being present with the person you're with at that moment.

1. Imagine you are the King. Narrate the incident of your meeting the hermit. Begin like this:

He looked tired, so I took the spade and dug for him. I asked my questions again. Then a bearded man arrived. I helped him with his wound and comforted him. The hermit gave him food and a place to stay. Before leaving, I asked the hermit my questions again. Finally, he gave me satisfying answers. By then, I had made peace with my enemy.

The king asked his questions again. Only then did I answer them to his satisfaction. He thanked me respectfully and left for his capital.
